On April 4th, 2023, the research team organized a workshop at EPFL inviting Christophe Gibout, to exchange on recreative practices in an of the urban space. Christophe Gibout is a Professor in Planning and Urbanism at the University of Dunkerque, France, and part of his work tackles issues related to public space, from the perspective of leisure uses and practices.
His intervention tackled the recreational town as a new paradigm for territory development. Following, Florence presented our ongoing research on the development of leisure activities in post-Olympic sites. Helena focused on the creative activities emphasized on the post-Olympics East London, while Mengke exposed her research on the recreational city in the mountain zone of Chongli-Zhangjiakou. Huishu shared her insights on Shougang as a new urban pole for urban sports activities, before an in-depth discussion on the mentioned concepts.
Christophe, Florence and Helena also visited the construction site of Plaines du Loup, a new eco-quartier in Lausanne, which aims to welcome about 11 000 inhabitants by 2030.
