Giorgia Cestaro is a PhD candidate in History of Architecture within a special joint PhD research program between Politecnico di Torino and Tsighua University of Beijing. Art and architectural historian, graduated at Ca’ Foscari University in Venice, she spent four years working in Beijing in 798 Art District first and at the Italian Embassy School later, as Coordinator. Her deep interest on Chinese Art, Architecture and Cultural Heritage brought her to focus the research activity on heritage conservation philosophy in China. She is part of China Room, Politecnico’s research group and she is and independent contributor writer for Art Magazines.
Her PhD research would like to tackle the evolution of the industrial conservation philosophy in China and its contemporary practices on management, within the frame of the Chinese cultural heritage legal and administrative regime. Considering the latest attention of the government on industrial heritage sites, the research would like to track the evolution of Chinese policies and strategies on the protection and management of industrial legacy since April 2006 when the draft notes of the first China Industrial Heritage Protection Forum in Wuxi, became the first constitutional document on industrial heritage protection. The research will produce an inventory and a mapping of the Chinese industrial sites protected at national level.
